Did you know that Atlanta is the fifth city in Georgia to be called the capital of the state? The original capital was Savannah. After it was captured by the British in 1778, the government was then moved to Augusta. Because it was deemed too far east, the capital was then moved to Louisville in 1796. If you are counting, so far that is 3 cities! In 1807, there were numerous reports that the city was experiencing a high number of malaria cases. Therefore, a new capital was constructed in Milledgeville. The government remained in Milledgeville until 1868 when Atlanta was declared the official capital of Georgia. Pretty interesting huh?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\nThe Georgia Peach<\/span><\/span><\/h1>\nSomething we may all know is that the official fruit for the state of Georgia is the peach.
