A Quick History Lesson

Before we get started, we have a fun little fact for you. Did you know that Atlanta is the fifth city in Georgia to be called the capital of the state? The original capital was Savannah. After it was captured by the British in 1778, the government was then moved to Augusta. Because it was deemed too far east, the capital was then moved to Louisville in 1796. If you are counting, so far that is 3 cities! In 1807, there were numerous reports that the city was experiencing a high number of malaria cases. Therefore, a new capital was constructed in Milledgeville. The government remained in Milledgeville until 1868 when Atlanta was declared the official capital of Georgia. Pretty interesting huh?

Something we may all know is that the official fruit for the state of Georgia is the peach. Not surprisingly, an interesting fact is that if you are giving or receiving directions, you will hear the phrase “Go down peachtree.” This is because in Atalanta alone, there are over 70 roads with the word “Peachtree” in their name! Wowzers.

Another thing you may not have known is that Atlanta is known as the birthplace of the civil rights movement in America. This is because Atlanta played a critical role in this period of American history. Year after year, Atlanta attracts many to the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park.

We suggest bringing a box into every room to place any items that do not belong in that room; this will help you stay on track and focused. This way, you are not tempted to run all over the place delivering items to their respective places.
